Tragedy struck the non-league football community in the United Kingdom this weekend with the devastating news that Saburi Olayinka Adeniji, a 31-year-old Nigerian winger for Kings Park Rangers in Essex, has passed away.
Adeniji died on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Queen’s Hospital from a severe brain stem injury. The injury, reportedly sustained during a match collision on January 25, led to his admission to intensive care. Despite being placed in an induced coma and on life support, his condition deteriorated.
The tragedy was compounded by a cruel twist of fate. Adeniji passed away just one day before his wife and their four-year-old daughter, who were traveling from Nigeria, could reach his bedside to say their final goodbyes.
