Obasa: Tight Security At Lagos Assembly As Plenary Holds Tod

As part of measures to forestall a potential breakdown of law and order, there was tight security and strict protocol measures put in place as the Lagos State House of Assembly holds plenary session today.
Following the insistence by the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa that he remained the speaker on the grounds that his colleagues who removed him failed to follow due process, the House is not leaving anything to chance.
It was gathered that visitors to the house including journalists and members of the public were thoroughly screened by security and protocol personnel.
About three police vehicles were stationed at the assembly’s main gate with other security vehicles sighted inside the complex as the lawmakers prepare to hold a plenary.
Punch reports that Journalists were lined up at the second gate to the assembly complex with security officials requesting their identity cards and barring other persons who could not identify themselves.
Already this morning, the new speaker, Rt. Hon Mojisola Meranda officially took over the office of the speaker at the assembly complex.
Recall that Obasa on Saturday told journalists and supporters at Ikeja GRA that he was still the speaker of the House until the lawmakers followed the “right process” to remove him.
The former speaker was removed by a majority of lawmakers on January 13 2025 following allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriations. He was replaced by his deputy, Mojisola Meranda.
Obasa denied the allegations on Saturday asking the lawmakers to prove their claims.
“If you want to claim that I’m corrupt, please prove it, let us see it,” he told supporters who welcomed him at the Speaker’s Lodge.
