LAGOS ASSURED RETIREES OF PROMPT BENEFITS, POST-SERVICE SUPPORT

Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro has reaffirmed the present administration’s commitment to prompt payment of retirement benefits and sustained welfare support for retired civil servants, declaring that retirement should mark “renewed purpose” rather than decline.

Agoro stated this during the send-off ceremony for 203 retired Officers in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters of Year 2025, held today at Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, assuring them that the government’s appreciation for their service remained intact.

Agoro outlined targeted initiatives designed to guarantee financial security and post-service engagement for retirees, which he said included prompt payment of retirement benefits, regular interactive sessions with the Head of Service, bi-monthly webinars on financial literacy and wellness, healthcare initiatives under ILERA EKO, enrolment in the Lagos State Single Social Register, and the establishment of recreation and wellness centres.

He urged the retirees not to see their exit from active service as the end of their relevance, noting that their experience remains critical to governance and community development.

“Let me implore you not to see your retirement as signifying the end of your relevance to our Public Service and the State in general. No doubt, your wealth of experience is still very relevant to the development of our Public Service and the State, so be assured we would tap into it,” Agoro stated.

The Head of Service also credited the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the support of his Deputy, Dr Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, for sustaining policies aimed at protecting the dignity of retirees.

He urged the retired Officers to remain mentors and active contributors within their communities, stressing that the government’s post-service framework is structured to ensure stability, healthy ageing and continued societal impact.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office/Office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbolu, rejoiced with the retirees, just as she advised them to take issues of their health seriously.

“I sincerely rejoice with all the retirees for successfully sailing through their length of service with Lagos State Government. I would also like to advise that you take your health seriously because health is wealth”, she advised.

Responding, the representative of the retirees, Mrs. Omotayo Gbajamiamila-Olamona expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for accommodating them for the past 35 years in the State Civil, just as she assured that she and her colleagues would be very much available to lend their wealth of experience to the Lagos State Government anytime they are called upon to do so.
